School Fair Inquiry

Our Term 3 school inquiry is:
'How can we be involved in the "School Fair"?

Tuning In:
First we discussed "What is a School Fair?" and "What things would you see at a Fair?"
We made a list of things that we would see at a fair. These included food, entertainment, rides and games and stalls where people sell different things e.g. books, cakes, artwork.

We then looked up Youtube and searched for video clips of different school fairs to help us with our ideas and discussions.

Finding Out and Sorting Out:
As a class we then discussed -
"How can Room 4 help at the school Fair?"
"What can we do to make money for our school?"

Some of our answers included:
* selling different food e.g. icecream, cakes, candyfloss
* selling tickets to a game or ride e.g. ferris wheel, throwing balls into clowns mouth, dunk tank
* a clown selling balloons
* face painting and hair creations

When children were asked which idea they liked the best, it was obvious that there was a trend towards having some kind of 'food stall'. So we narrowed down our ideas and ......

We have decided we are going to make ......
Lolly Bags!!

Discovery Time - Pirates

On Monday the 8th of August we discovered all about 'Pirates'.

Emily in a sword fight

We looked at what pirates wear - a pirate hat, hoop earrings, an eye patch and sometimes they have a parrot sitting on their shoulder. We made pirate hats and pirate ships out of newspaper.

Captain Tane

We also looked at pirate ships. We discovered they have cannons alongside each side of the ship that fire at other ships out at sea.

Dejohnae and Emily pretending to have a sword fight.
We made our own pirate maps, marking the trail to get to 'x' marks the spot. We pretended we were pirates and had sword fights and 'walked the plank'.

Swimming at Splash Palace

It is that time of year again, to dig out your 'Swimming Togs' and learn how to swim.

I'm looking forward to jumping in the pool myself, and looking for who can put their head under the water and blow bubbles and who can float with a board.

Room 4 are swimming Monday - Thursday afternoons during weeks 3 and 4
(15th - 25th August).

We will be having an early lunch at 12pm and travelling down to the pool ready to start swimming lessons at 1pm. Please make sure each day, you have your towel, swimmers and if you need your goggles in a swimming bag with your name on it. Please don't wear your togs underneath your uniform.

We are looking for some parents that could be available during these afternoons. If you are interested in helping out with our swimming visits please let the school know :)

Cheers Melanie
